Today is another day for Wordle fans to try and unravel its mysterious five-letter word. In order to play the game, new players need to know a rule outline, some winning strategies, and even full spoilers to help keep the Wordle winning streak going.
How to play Wordle
Before learning the Wordle rules, players will want to make sure they are in the correct place. The version of Wordle covered in this article is the original version owned and hosted by The New York Times; it is only accessible through the newspaper’s game website or the New York Times Crossword and Wordle app. Other versions will have different answers than the version here, and the rules may be slightly different.
First, choose a starting word. The five-letter word must be a real word, not a proper noun or an offensive word. The player should choose a word that contains five different letters. They should avoid previous Wordle answers and plural nouns ending in S, as these are not today’s answers. Enter the starting Wordle word in the website. Press enter. The letters of the start word change color. The green letters are correct and in the correct position in the word. The yellow letters are correct, but in the wrong position within the word. Gray letters are incorrect and will not appear in answers today. Try another word that matches the clue given by the previous attempt. Enter it into the website. Press enter. The letters of the word also change color, giving the player more clues to the answer. Keep trying until the player runs out of their six attempts or guesses the answer correctly. There is only one puzzle per person per day, and new puzzles appear on the Wordle website and app at 12:00AM local time. The Wordle menu appears after a puzzle is completed or when the player presses the graphic button in the upper right corner of the screen.
