Wordle is an easy-to-learn but hard-to-master word puzzle game from New York Times Games. This word puzzle game has new challenges every day, and today’s words are hard enough that some players might go out and get some help.
How to play Wordle
In order to play this viral word game, players first need to make sure they are in the right place. To play the original version of Wordle rather than one of Wordle’s many clones and imitators, they should head to the New York Times Games website or the New York Times Crossword and Wordle app. Other versions of the answer differ from the one listed here, and may even have slightly different rules.
Next, the player needs to choose a starting word. The best starting words in Wordle:
Must be five letters long. It has to be the truth. Should contain five distinct letters. Should contain two or three vowels. Plural nouns that should not end in S or ES. Shouldn’t be the previous answer. Cannot be a proper noun. Once a good starting word has been selected, the player can enter it into the Wordle grid and press enter. This will cause the color of the letters of the starting word to change, with each color representing a different meaning.
The letters that turn green are correct and in the correct position in the word. If a letter turns yellow, it is correct, but in the wrong position within the word. Gray letters are incorrect and will not appear in that day’s answer. Given these clues, the player needs to choose a second word. Type the word into the grid, press enter, and the letters also change color, giving the player more clues to get them closer to the answer. Players have a total of six attempts per day to find the answer before losing the game. Puzzles reset daily at midnight local time.
When the puzzle is complete, the Wordle menu will pop onto the screen. This menu contains all Wordle statistics, including the total number of puzzles played, how many players have won, etc. There’s even a countdown clock to the next puzzle.
