Ahead of the official launch of Sonic Origins Plus later this June, footage of a playable Amy Rose, along with her Super Form, has leaked online. While fans were excited about Amy getting her super form, they were divided on how it would look. Sonic Origins Plus is an expansion of the original games that launched last summer, with new content including 12 Sega Game Gear games, as well as playable classic Amy Rose.
Making Amy playable in Sonic Origins Plus has been well received, as she can now destroy Dr. Eggman’s droid just like the other three characters already in the base game. The move is also seen as an exciting prospect to introduce : Super Amy, something fans have long wanted. Dragon Ball Z Super Saiyan-inspired transformations have been a staple of the series, but are rarely used by characters other than Sonic, with the form used by Knuckles and Tail only seen in the classic game Sonic 3 Knuckles. Leaks from the Plus update suggest that Amy does have the Super and Hyperform after gathering the necessary items, though fans are divided on what it will look like.
Footage of this form was first leaked by YouTuber Sekaimen, who posted a video showing off all the Super and Hyper forms that can be used in Sonic Origins Plus, unlocked after earning all Chaos Emeralds or Hyper Emeralds depending on the game. Super Amy has a unique look as her feathers and fur start to glow a brighter pink, becoming invulnerable in the process. Compared to her Hyper form, the color palette looks pretty much the same. While some were delighted to see Super Amy confirmed, others were disappointed by its appearance.
The most common reason fans are disappointed is that the super form itself looks bland, just changing the color of her quill and making her glow. A few people noticed that this is exactly the same as what Sonic Team did for Tails, Knuckles, Mighty, and Ray for their Super Forms in the classic games and Sonic Mania, when they preferred her more unique design, not just her tune Swatch swap.
Other fans were excited to see Amy Rose get Super Form, with some commenting on how their descriptions finally portrayed her correctly. Some are hoping that this isn’t just a one-time thing and that Super Amy can be used in modern games, such as the upcoming Sonic Superstars.
Sonic Origins is out now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, with the Plus expansion coming on June 23, 2023.
