Skyrim Player Somehow Rides a Dragon After It Dies

Even after all these years, it’s impossible to predict what will happen in Skyrim’s casual play, and a fan captured the moment when they were somehow able to ride on the back of a dragon after it had been killed. As the incredibly successful follow-up to Oblivion, the fifth entry in Bethesda’s iconic Elder Scrolls series is a force to be reckoned with, not just in the role-playing game genre, but in mainstream gaming in general.

Along with the ravishingly beautiful landscapes to explore, the plethora of NPCs to interact with, and the plethora of quests to keep fans busy, Skyrim is also known for its dragons. These winged beasts play a vital role in the main storyline, and players encounter them at a moment’s notice as they happily traverse the provinces. While they can be quite intimidating at first, especially to newcomers, most will fight enough of them to learn what these flying monsters are capable of, and many will even ride them.

However, once a dragon is slain, its soul is captured by the player, and its skeleton is left behind as a sign that a fight took place. But, as Reddit user overlorddeathslime pointed out, it’s possible to climb on the back of one of these beasts of Skyrim when they’re no longer alive. A recent clip from their game shows them approaching a dragon after attacking it with a roar, and the option to ride it appears. However, it’s clear that something is wrong with the game. When an overlorddeathslime sits on an animal, its skin begins to burn as if it had just been killed. In fact, the fact that the player is now riding on the back of a dragon skeleton at the end of the clip seems like nothing out of the ordinary. The clip can be viewed here.

It’s a very odd thing to do, though user Bandit_Outlaw called the clip of overlorddeathslime “very bad.” Skyrim is known for its litany of bugs, some of which can detract from the overall experience, but also some that can be fun, or just a little weird. Regardless, seeing a Dragonborn soar through the skies atop the skeleton of one of these majestic beasts is quite the thing.

Interestingly, Skyrim fans are still looking for information about the game more than 11 years after its release. It’s part of the reason Bethesda’s epic RPG remains wildly popular to this day, but it also does highlight that one of the things that keeps players happy is all the glitches that still exist.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim – Anniversary Edition is now available for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
