Resident Evil 4 Remake: Rank Requirements & Rewards Explained

In the Resident Evil 4 remake, Leon’s performance is determined by how quickly he beats campaigns — or how much he uses his typewriter. At the end of the final chapter, he received an A, B, S or S+ grade depending on his performance.

Now, die-hard Resident Evil fans probably already know how the franchise’s ranking system works, but the 2023 remake has made some small tweaks that might need some clarification. Some challenges now reward players with special guns or outfits, some of which are related to the new ranking mechanic.

RE4 Reworked Ranking System Explained

table showing all rank requirements in the resident evil 4 remake. In Resident Evil 4 Remastered, the ranking system is an indicator of performance. It determines the player’s level by analyzing the player’s game time and save data. The faster they complete the game, the higher the rank they get.

The ranking metrics are different for mercenaries, in which players battle hordes of enemies. In this mode, the number of kills and combos determines whether a player should receive an A, B, S, S+, or S++ rating.

Rank Requirements for All Difficulties

All RE4 ranks are determined by playtime, except for the S+ rank in Pro Mode. For example, on Assisted difficulty, beating the game in 15 hours gives them an A rank; beating it with an NG+ in 4 hours gives them an S; and beating it in a new game in 4 hours rewards them with an S+.

The table below shows all rank requirements in RE4 Reforged.

It is impossible to get an S+ rating in New Game Plus. To obtain this level, players need to create a new save file and start a game with no leftover items.

All Difficulty Ranking Rewards

Players can unlock 21 prizes through ranking. Of these, four are unique utility clothing that boost Leon’s stats (Chicken Hat, Cat Ears, Fox Tail, and Antlers); two are unique weapons (Handcannon and Chicago Sweeper). The rest is clothing and accessories.

Mercenary Level Requirements

This mode has players trying to survive hordes of enemies and gain a ranking based on the number of kills and combos they get. Unlike the campaign, game time has less of an impact on the mercenary ranking system; it’s mostly determined by “enemies killed” and “highest combo” scores.

The table below shows the rank requirements for mercenaries.
