Once equipped, the Chicken Hat needs to be removed from the main menu. It cannot be turned off mid-game unless the player saves the game, exits the main menu, changes it in the Extras tab, and jumps back into the game.

How Chicken Hats Affected Leon

As a protective accessory, the Chicken Hat reduces Leon’s damage taken by up to 50%. Its role is comparable to body armor, body armor that increases health. But unlike the vest, the Chick Hat requires no repairs, providing Leon with permanent protection.

Chicken Hats only work on Leon and will not affect Ashley’s health.

Getting the Chicken Hat is worth it, especially for players who want to play the game 100%. Because the hat boosts Leon’s health, it makes him less reliant on restoration items, facilitating earning achievements like The Frugalist and gaining higher levels of gameplay on Expert or Professional difficulty.
