PlayStation Plus members at the Extra and Premium tiers can get a bonus game this month now that Sony has added Anodyne to its catalog. PS Plus Extra and Premium subscribers get new games every month, while Premium subscribers get some extra bonuses like access to select PS1, PS2, PSP, and PS3 games.
Sony typically updates the PS Plus Extra and Premium lineup in the third week of a given month, with some games leaving the service around the same day. The final game list is usually announced a few days in advance, but games are almost never added to PS Plus without some form of official announcement. It looks like Anodyne is a rare exception to this rule, as it appears to have been added as a surprise bonus game.
Sony added Anodyne to the catalog of games available to PS Plus Extra and Premium subscribers on April 4, TrueTrophies reported. Anodyne isn’t on the official game list for PS Plus Extra coming to PS Plus Extra in March 2023 and the upcoming April lineup, so Sony doesn’t seem to be making a big splash about the Shadow game. Regardless, higher-tier PlayStation Plus fans can download and play Anodyne for free.
For those who don’t know, Anodyne is a top-down action-adventure game with some elements from The Legend of Zelda series. It received fairly positive reviews upon release, with the PC version scoring 75 on Metacritic.
Sony added some notable games to PS Plus Extra in March 2023, including Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, Immortals Fenyx Rising, Street Fighter 5 Championship Edition, and day one release Tchia. Additionally, Premium users get Ridge Racer Type 4, Ape Academy 2, and Siphon Filter: Dark Mirror, but it’s odd that Anodyne doesn’t appear on this list at all.
WWE 2K22 was likewise added to PS Plus Extra on January 3, but it was itself announced in December. Perhaps the deal to get Anodyne on PS Plus came much later, and the developers didn’t want to wait for the April monthly update. Regardless, PS Plus Extra and Premium subscribers can now play Anodyne within their subscription service, and it will be interesting to see if Sony decides to add more bonus games as surprises in the future.
Anodyne is out now on Mobile, PC, PS4, Switch and Xbox One.
