Mortal Kombat 12 News Could Be Coming Sooner Than Expected

Fans may be getting a Mortal Kombat 12 update sooner than they expected, at least if a reliable insider is to be believed. As early as July 2021, after NetherRealm announced the completion of support for “Mortal Kombat 11”, some people began to speculate that NetherRealm had already started working on the next “Mortal Kombat”, but until February of this year, “Mortal Kombat 12” was confirmed. A senior executive at Warner Bros. Discovery revealed during its quarterly earnings call that Mortal Kombat 12 is in the works, reviving speculation in the fighting game community about what this latest sequel will bring.

Even Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon responded to the sudden Mortal Kombat 12 reveal with a hilarious joke, before slowly sharing some insight into which video game characters from other franchises aren’t. Insights will emerge, and – more importantly – when fans should expect Mortal Kombat 12’s official announcement. While nothing is set in stone at the time of writing, NetherRealm may be unveiling the secrets surrounding Mortal Kombat 12 sooner than many expect.

Windows Central reporter and gaming insider Jez Corden recently hinted that news of Mortal Kombat 12 could be coming in a few weeks. In a Twitter response to popular fighting game streamer Maximilian Dood, Corden echoed Dood’s wish for the MK 12 to have “MK9 decision-making speed,” replying “I think you will Find out more next month.” Corden has proven itself to be reliable in the past, and since there’s no indication that NetherRealm will release Mortal Kombat 12 next week, a May release seems more likely.

Additionally, the WBD earnings call that revealed Mortal Kombat 12 also noted that Mortal Kombat 12 could be released sometime this year. This will be a tricky time for NetherRealm to release a new fighting game, with Street Fighter VI slated for release in June and Tekken 8 also rumored to be released in 2023. Not only that, but both Guilty Gear Strive and King of Fighters will receive expansion DLC throughout the year, cementing 2023 as a busy and exciting year for fighting game fans.

Still, if Mortal Kombat 12 is indeed coming out in 2023, it’s time for NetherRealm to reveal more sooner rather than later. Fans are eagerly anticipating the next installment in the legendary Mortal Kombat franchise, and if Jez Corden is right, they might just have to wait a few more weeks to see the next big development in MK 12.
