MLB The Show 23: Best Teams To Join As A Closer/Relief Pitcher

Unlike the starters and position players in MLB The Show 23, relievers and finishers are not guaranteed playing time. If the starters finish the game, or the score is so bad that the game isn’t a game, the managers simply don’t use their best replacements.

Among non-contender teams, the Finishers won’t get enough appearances to do anything meaningful in MLB The Show 23. Gamers will need to pick great teams with bad finishers to have any success outside of the bullpen. Thankfully, a handful of teams are in need and fit the bill.

Fan favorites like Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani are part of the reason the game has gone multiplatform; demand for these players is strong. Unfortunately, the Angels have yet to play a deep playoff game despite having two of the best players ever at their respective positions.

Gamers can be the difference-makers in the bullpen. The closing pitcher was an abysmal 67 and tied for the lowest-rated starting pitcher in the game. Players can be drafted early and change the fortunes of a team that, on paper, is finally ready for a championship.

Minnesota has a top-10 team in defense, power and contact. Pitching is just average, and it’s a close-range dream come true; there will be plenty of opportunities to pitch for the team, as the starters are only slightly better than the competition.

This is a smaller franchise, with a noticeable lack of off-season drama in the game. But if the players want to help the Twins become the best in baseball, it’s pretty easy to do, since they just need a little help from the batsmen.

The Cubs are tied for the league’s worst scorers with 67 points. Chicago isn’t one of those teams in need of a great starting pitcher, but they’re in the market for an closer and receiver. The bullpen keeps blowing close games and shrinking leads.

Players who pick Chicago will find that their scoring output isn’t great, but that’s part of the fun. They’ll hold a narrow lead with just a few innings left and the offense running out of steam. Gamers looking to save will find a home here.

The Rangers aren’t usually considered when considering the best team in baseball, but they only have a 99-rated pitcher and a sizable budget. They were blocked by a 75-year-old finisher. It’s not terrible, but they need more to make a difference in the playoffs.

The Rangers rank middling in power, defense, speed and pitching. The finishers here will find themselves drafted in many close games and in tough spots with runners on base. Texas needs bullpen heroes.

The Diamondbacks represent a philosophical shift unlike the other slightly above-average teams on this roster. Conversely, Arizona is slightly below average in most categories. Finishers looking for more saves will want to pick another team.

However, when things go south, the Diamondbacks may turn to their finishers and backups most frequently. Players here will have the opportunity to win games as substitutes who can stop scoring-threatening teams.

MLB The Show 23 is available now for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
