A longtime Spider-Man fan has given the official Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 cover art a makeover based on Neversoft’s classic PS1 game. The official cover art for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was revealed at this month’s Summer Game Festival 2023 alongside the game’s release date.
Following the events of Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered and Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will feature Peter Parker and Miles as playable protagonists in the main story. The two heroes will team up against dangerous villains, including Kraven the Hunter and the Lizard. Additionally, Peter will have his fan-favorite symbiote suit in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which makes him more aggressive in battle compared to Miles. During the Summer Game Fest 2023 showcase, Geoff Keighley and Insomniac Games’ Bryan Inithar revealed the release date and official cover art for the upcoming game, which will be coming on October 10. Released on the 20th.
Spider-Man fan Taneto90 compiled Marvel’s official Spider-Man 2 cover as a tribute to Neversoft’s PS1 Spider-Man game. The newly edited cover includes fonts from the classic Spider-Man game developed by Neversoft and a custom logo made by Taneto90. Additionally, the character models of Peter Parker and Miles Morales have been edited to resemble the polygonal models from the original PlayStation game. The new cover art was also edited to an aspect ratio of 4:3 to mimic the cover art inside the PS1 video game casing.
Neversoft’s Spider-Man game was released in 2000 for the PS1, Nintendo 64, and Game Boy Color. A year later, the game would get a SEGA Dreamcast and Microsoft Windows port, when the overall response to the game was positive. Nearly 23 years after the Neversoft game was first released, PlayStation fans will have another chance to play a new Spider-Man game when Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 launches.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 cover by Taneto90 is an adorable tribute to Neversoft games and classic PlayStation titles. Insomniac Games will be contributing to the development of the Spider-Man games this October, and fans will likely continue to express their excitement in the community by creating fan art and sharing moments from previous Marvel’s Spider-Man games.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will expand into New York City, allowing players to explore one of the largest worlds ever developed for a Spider-Man game. Players will also have a variety of outfits to collect and wear while exploring New York City and battling enemies. Currently, it’s unclear if Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will have costumes inspired by the classic Spider-Man games, but Peter and Miles will be able to don suits inspired by various Spider-Man comics.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is coming to PlayStation 5 on October 20.
