The Resident Evil 4 remake is starting to roll out with a new update that includes some fixes, but there is one specific change that might not be a good fit for speedrunners. Quickly becoming one of the fastest-selling entries in the Resident Evil franchise, the most recent reimagining of the iconic 2005 survival-horror installment has been well-received by fans and critics alike, and Capcom has successfully blended RE with a sense of nostalgia and something that feels new.
Of course, one of the things that a lot of players have noticed lately is the variety of ways fans can take advantage of Resident Evil 4. This could include a glitch that lets Leon Kennedy fire a ton of rockets, or a stun from one that locks on the game’s bosses, making them easier to take down. Regardless, these exploits allow people to make things a little easier. However, the developers seem to have started plugging in some of the more glaring issues.
In the latest patch notes for Resident Evil 4 Remake, a new update addresses some issues with the game. According to a recent post on the official site, the patch now allows unobtainable items to be collected, and there are some miscellaneous fixes across all platforms. However, this update also makes it impossible for players to walk through walls, especially when using scopes. This could be a disadvantage to fans who have been learning speedrunning routes and using this glitch to save a lot of time through levels.
Fans of Resident Evil 4 will soon be playing the game. Despite its roughly 15-16 hour running time, some dedicated players have easily completed the remake in less than two hours. One such glitch did involve jumping through many areas with an oscilloscope. However, with the latest update fixing this particular bug, players looking to beat the world record may have to start over.
For those unaware, speedrunning is a very popular challenge among many gamers. In short, the ultimate goal is to end the game by any means possible. While outright cheating is prohibited, many runs have categories that allow people to exploit glitches as well as the overall programming of the game. While a personal challenge for many, events like the Awesome Games Done Quick can raise millions for charity. It will be interesting to see if Capcom patches up more speedrunning bugs, not to mention how runners respond.
