MachineGames may currently be working on Wolfenstein 3. A new job listing suggests that publisher ZeniMax may be looking for someone to work on a new game in the Wolfenstein franchise, raising the chances that fans will soon get a sequel to the game featuring some of the best villains ever.
Wolfenstein is one of the most classic FPS series of all time. An obscure action-adventure game focused on stealth in 1981 became the basis for 1992’s Wolfenstein 3D, the game that essentially created the FPS genre a year before Doom released. The series returned in 2014 with Wolfenstein: The New Order, developed by MachineGames. The game’s popularity spawned sequels and spinoffs, and it was once again hailed as the best FPS series of the 2010s.
Now, Wolfenstein 3 could be in the works or at least about to start, as job listings suggest the studio is looking for new hires. These job listings were found by Hard2DaC0re and shared them on Reddit. ZeniMax is currently looking for candidates for the position of Senior Animator. Recruiters are looking specifically for people who are passionate about immersive first-person shooters and have previously worked on the full production cycle of at least one AAA game. There’s another detail, though, that makes this more likely about a new Wolfenstein, as the “Preferred Skills” section lists a strong familiarity with the MachineGames-developed game.
Unfortunately, there aren’t any details about the game right now, including whether the item exists, so gamers should take this as speculation. For example, it’s unclear who will be the new protagonist if the game exists. B.J. Blazkowicz was the lead in the first two titles, but Wolfenstein: Youngblood chose to star sisters Jess and Soph Blazkowicz, the so-called horror twins, instead. The reception of the newest title was less positive than the first game, though, leaving the question open.
Wolfenstein 3 would certainly be an excellent addition to Xbox Game Pass, which lacks big, successful titles in 2023. Microsoft is hosting the Xbox Games Showcase on June 11, giving gamers a chance to learn more about the theory and new Wolfenstein game out there. However, the star of the show is clearly Bethesda’s Starfield, arguably the most anticipated game coming to Game Pass this year.
