Avalanche Software is looking for its next big game after Hogwarts Legacy. Hogwarts Legacy is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch, and could bring a new wave of success to gaming in the wizarding world. But Avalanche Software is already hard at work on a new project.
The PS4 and Xbox One versions of Hogwarts Legacy will be available on May 5th, while the Nintendo Switch version will be available online and in-store on July 25th. The game received overall positive reviews, especially in terms of world design. Most reviews praised the look of the wizarding school and the world around it, even if the story itself was considered the weaker part of Hogwarts’ legacy. Overall, most fans are happy with what Avalanche Software has created and hope it will spawn more content and DLC. Unfortunately, game director Alan Tew has previously stated that there are currently no plans for DLC, making it more likely that Avalanche Software’s focus is already on another project.
To be sure, Avalanche Software is looking for a Software Engineer to join its team. The job listing lures job seekers by pointing to the studio’s success with its Hogwarts legacy, but the ad is very specific about wanting to hire someone for an “unannounced AAA console title.” The rest of the checklist doesn’t give any further hints about the nature of the project, it’s just a list of what to expect from a software engineer who fits the capabilities of a company like Avalanche. So, for fans, there’s nothing left to do but speculate. While Alan Tew stated that there are currently no plans for DLC, gamers have seized on the wording, hoping that “currently” means there is room for Avalanche to develop one or more DLCs in the future.
So it’s possible that this listing is for adding DLC to the Hogwarts legacy, although given the game’s success Warner Bros. may already be thinking about developing the next Wizarding World title as well. That’s despite fans clamoring for the Quidditch DLC to be added to the Hogwarts legacy. The court is already in the game, and players are happy to see it used. The third option is that Warner Bros. wants to give the wizarding world a break and have a completely different project going on that has nothing to do with the Hogwarts legacy.
Historically, there have been very few companies that haven’t capitalized on the success of their titles to produce sequels. But Avalanche may be splitting its attention between Hogwarts Legacy and a game with a different theme.
Hogwarts Legacy is out now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, with PS4 and Xbox One releases on May 5 and a Switch port on July 25.
