A Skyrim player managed to steal the Dark Brotherhood’s front door while playing the game. The Dark Brotherhood of Skyrim is one of the most iconic questlines in the game, and every player of the game will instantly recognize the Black Gate.
When Skyrim released in 2011, Bethesda had high hopes for the next iteration of the Dark Brotherhood. While some feel that Skyrim’s factions leave a lot to be desired, the Dark Brotherhood and Thieves Guild are still lauded and are still a big reason players keep returning to the game to this day. Some mods even take this opportunity to revamp the Dark Brotherhood so that even the most experienced Skyrim players can have a fresh gaming experience again.
This strange image, posted to Reddit by user TeleportingRoach, shows the Dark Brotherhood’s Black Gate on the Dragonborn’s back. Interestingly, they seem to be holding it like a shield, so it’s possible they actually used it in combat. Skyrim already has a ton of combat mods that change the way players fight in the game. If this is a mod, it’s definitely one of the strangers available in the game.
Players in the post were taken aback by the eerie sight, with one player joking that it “gives a whole new meaning to doordash.” It’s unclear how the image came to be. There are a lot of weird Skyrim mods out there that might allow something like this, but the Redditor was vague in the thread about how they got the door. It still feels underwhelming compared to the wild Skyrim mods that let players travel on Skooma. It’s certainly not something players will be able to do in the base Skyrim game, and if it’s a glitch, it’s a pretty unique problem.
Gamers hope the Dark Brotherhood will return in The Elder Scrolls 6. The faction has been a mainstay of the series for years, and it always seems to inspire some of Bethesda’s best and funniest quest designs. Many players felt that Oblivion perfected the Dark Brotherhood when it released in 2006, but that shouldn’t stop Bethesda from continuing to try to innovate and improve. Hopefully, if it does come back, the Black Gate will be a bit safer next time.
Skyrim is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
