Blade of Miquella, the famous Boss Malenia, was defeated by a skilled Elden Ring player within 15 seconds. As the FromSoftware game continues, more and more players try to challenge themselves in a game that already challenges them. Whether it’s trying to defeat the entire Elden Ring with one’s mind, or something simpler like fighting certain bosses at rune level 1, there’s no end to what players can do. A subset of this is speedrunning, where the player tries to defeat the boss as quickly as possible.
Malenia is one of the toughest bosses in Elden Ring, and has a reputation for causing difficulty for many players. But because of that, she’s also a challenge that many see as a challenge to overcome, not just in normal combat, but one that puts the player at a disadvantage, like trying to beat Malenia at level 1 without dodging . With her fast and lengthy attacks and her second stage utilizing Scarlet Rot, Malenia is not a boss to be underestimated, especially one that players shouldn’t normally try to beat quickly, lest they end up on her blade.
However, the Elden Ring player quickly beat her to it. On Reddit’s Elden Ring community, user RS_Lionheart uploaded a clip of their brief battle with Malenia in NG+7. The clip begins with players applying several buffs to their characters while standing outside the arena. Once they’re inside, they use a dual sword jump attack to quickly take Malenia into her second phase, where they throw a jar of frost to knock Malenia down, then use the same jump again shortly after defeating her with a 15 second timeout attack.
In the comments, many praised players for being able to defeat Miquela’s Blade so quickly, with some pointing out that it took longer to apply all the buffs than the fight itself. In many cases, these buffs do help in combat, but there have also been instances where Elden Ring players with massive buffs will die instantly, so in-game combat isn’t always a panacea. The quick fix buff is easy enough to say the least, but there’s also the art of knowing when to dodge and when to attack.
Combat in Elden Ring is so wide and deep that players can find ways to take down bosses like Malenia with just a stick. While this in itself shows that there are multiple ways to progress through the Elden Ring, it’s never as easy as it seems, and even players like this have to practice to get to where they are now.
Elden Ring is out now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
