World of Warcraft may soon be holding a crossover event with Diablo 4, based on the latest release of its public test realm. The event could come to World of Warcraft in May, in the weeks leading up to Diablo 4’s release.
World of Warcraft Patch 10.1 arrives on May 2nd, bringing new regions, story campaigns, and raids. Some major patches are already available on the WoW PTR, which regularly receives beta versions for players to experience.
One of the latest builds contains a new event called “Welcome to the Sanctuary”. According to the event description, players will be able to hunt treasure goblins in Azeroth to obtain unique rewards, and will be able to benefit from the Wind of Sanctuary—a 50% increase in experience gain and increased prestige for all factions except the new faction 8% Rom Niffin from Cinders of Neltharion. A date for the event isn’t currently listed, but players can expect the event to begin once patch 10.1 arrives. It will likely run through Diablo 4’s launch on June 6 – possibly continuing to log players into World of Warcraft after launch day.
In addition to experience and prestige improvements, players can also obtain a variety of decorations during the event. A new World of Warcraft achievement tied to the new Baerlia battle pet suggests players can earn a new minion themed after the Lord of Lies from Diablo 3. Item entries for the Horadric Rucksack Pack and Hatred Hood and Cloak set were also found, along with models for the ornaments Wirt’s Leg Mace and Treasure Nabbin’ Bag back. Players will likely obtain these items by defeating treasure goblins, exchanging currency, or other similar activities.
Players are understandably excited about the Diablo 4 crossover event in World of Warcraft. Welcome to the Sanctuary isn’t the first time an event like this has been held – Blizzard has held similar crossover events in the past, and it even included a World of Warcraft mount in the Diablo 4 pre-order bundle. Collaborations between Blizzard games have been historically popular, with players eager to see official details of the Winds of Sanctuary event from WoW itself.
With Diablo 4 in open beta and released in just a few months, players can’t wait to return to the sanctuary. While Azeroth’s population may drop a little shortly after launch, the Welcome to Sanctuary event will ensure players don’t forget World of Warcraft as they battle Lilith and her minions.
World of Warcraft is now available for PC.
