The recently released mid-season patch for Destiny 2 made a ton of adjustments to weapon balance, while also introducing new measures to make environmental and fall damage non-lethal, a feature that has brought some hilarious hilarity to parts of the game. Moments. While some changes were first made to environmental damage with the release of Destiny 2’s latest expansion, Bungie has opted not to make further changes to the system.
Destiny 2’s 7.0.5.0 update brings some major balance tweaks to some of the game’s main weapon types, something fans have been clamoring for since the game’s latest expansion ramped up difficulty across the board. Damage buffs for Auto Rifles, Pistols, Hand Cannons, Pulse Rifles, and Scout Rifles give weapons some much-needed help, as many weapons under these archetypes have proven effective in mid-to-higher content since Destiny’s release Enemy Null 2: Lighthouse. While the patch also managed to fix several existing bugs, the number of new issues it introduced to players led some to claim that Destiny 2’s latest update did more harm than good.
While dying from high-velocity wall impacts has largely been a thing of the past since Lightfall, the game’s latest patch has introduced the ability to survive falls from any height. These changes are a huge boon for players associated with “The Architect,” but given the unpredictability of Destiny 2’s troublesome physics engine, it’s no surprise that players are already having some wacky experiences with these changes . A Reddit fan named Yukari7777 shared a post on the site showing what happens when a physics-resistant Guardian messes up in the Eternal Challenge obstacle course, where the fast-moving obstacles hit the player trying to Crashing wildly across the room after use Stranded bypasses the course.
Many in the Destiny 2 community expressed disappointment after the developer revealed a slew of additional changes that were “missing” from the initial patch notes list. While it’s hard to say how or why these notes weren’t immediately listed, they deal a heavy blow to build crafting opportunities, while also reducing the effectiveness of certain Strand abilities. Aside from the long list of new and persistent bugs that have plagued the experience of some Destiny 2 players, it’s clear why many were dissatisfied with the patch’s overall impact on the game.
Another unfortunate change in version 7.0.5.0 is the removal of a popular bug that allowed players to double or even triple the reward chests provided by Neomuna’s Terminal Overload event. This event provides an example of the loot problem in Destiny 2, as Terminal Overload now provides such a poor balance between rewards and the necessary time investment that many fans opted to forego the event entirely – and the associated patrol spaces.
Destiny 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
