Bungie is bound to continue changing and modifying many of the new gameplay features that were introduced to Destiny 2 with the Lightfall DLC, notably the Commendation system, which will be coming through again in the coming weeks. In a short period of time, Bungie has largely iterated on Commendation, revolving almost entirely around its importance to progression.
While major changes to Destiny 2’s difficulty and rewards have been outlined, more changes are already in the works. A new Bungie blog post dedicated to the subject of the Lightfall failure explains that Commendations had to be completely retuned, and player recommendations that were very specific a while ago will appear in the next update.
Destiny 2 players have been asking for specific fashion awards ever since the system was first introduced to the game. Specifically, while most Commendations either focus on a player’s helpfulness or expertise, the community also felt the need for a specific “Best Dressed” Commendation. Now, Bungie has promised to deliver this reward “in the coming weeks,” which means the wait won’t be too long in the grand scheme of things.
It is wrong to use it for the purpose of recognition. by u/ItsaJosepi in DestinyTheGame Fashion is very important in Destiny 2 because it’s an easy and rewarding way for players to differentiate themselves and make a good impression. By excluding this element from the recognition system, Bungie failed to recognize a very important aspect of the community. However, this isn’t a huge deal, as the studio has been very responsive to player requests lately, which hasn’t always been the case in the past.
Despite Lightfall’s many problems, Destiny 2 has performed extremely well on PC. Even the more positively reviewed Witch Queen DLC failed to attract the same attention, suggesting that Bungie is generally on the right track when it comes to long-term player retention and other such issues. Of course, it remains to be seen whether this will pan out, but for now, it’s a good showing.
Specifically, the Commendation may be one of the fastest examples of Bungie iterating on new gameplay features the game has ever seen. Players had to farm for medals in Destiny 2 in early March, and now, after receiving a lot of feedback, the feature has been almost entirely delayed in lieu of other challenges. It’s likely that the system will be further optimized in the coming months, but it doesn’t appear to be a huge problem at the moment.
Destiny 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
