Cyberpunk 2077 DLC Will Also Benefit the Base Game, CDPR Says

The Phantom Freedom DLC for Cyberpunk 2077 is only a few months away, but for those unsure whether to buy it, CD Projekt Red says the main game will still get some new features. Of all the content announced at the recent Xbox Games Showcase, Bethesda’s Starfield is the one most people are talking about, but more details on upcoming new content for CDPR’s dystopian sci-fi role-playing game are also expected.

While Cyberpunk 2077 will go down in gaming history as one of the most disastrous launches in recent memory, Cyberpunk 2077 is now considered by many to be the best open world in terms of scope and level of detail One of the role-playing games. To distance itself from the December 2020 release, the game has undergone a series of necessary changes and patches. Fortunately, things are much better now, and many fans are now anticipating the upcoming expansion.

However, there are still some perks available in the base game for those who don’t want to buy the Cyberpunk 2077 DLC. In a recent interview with VGC, creative director Pawel Sasko and quest designer Despoina Anetaki said the team has been redesigning some of the game’s “core major systems” in preparation for Phantom Freedom. This includes overhauling AI, skill trees, and implementing vehicular combat. Some of these features and tweaks will also be present in the main game, Sasko said, adding that “the core system should be there.”

It was also recently announced that Cyberpunk 2077’s Phantom Freedom will launch on September 26. A new trailer shows what’s to come, showing the return of Johnny Silverhand and Idris Elba’s Solomon Reed. During the Xbox Games Showcase, Keanu Reeves took to the stage to introduce the trailer and confirm the DLC release date, much to the delight of fans.

According to CDPR, in addition to this, there is news that the follow-up work of “Cyberpunk 2077” will enter the early development stage in 2024. That means the sequel could still be years away, but given that the studio is also working on a new Witcher saga and a remake of the first Witcher game, the Polish development team are logically planning to keep busy for a while.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty will be released on September 26, 2023 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
