According to a reliable leaker, Call of Duty : Warzone 2 may get a new map in Season 4. Call of Duty: Warzone 2 is a long-running FPS series that ventures into the free-to-play battle royale realm popularized by games like PUBG and Fortnite.
Since its release in November 2022, Warzone 2 has two main maps. The first is Al Mazrah, the capital of the United Republic of Adal, a fictional West Asian nation set in the Call of Duty universe. It is the background for the ground war and special ops game genre maps. Season Two adds Ashika Island to Warzone 2, a battle royale map designed for the Resurgence and DMZ game genres. Zuhua Island is a chain of small islands in the Asia-Pacific region.
Back in April, TaskForceLeak, one of the most trusted Call of Duty leakers, revealed that the next Warzone 2 map would be set in the Netherlands, and that the map would be named Vondel, possibly based on Vondelpark in Amsterdam, which itself gets its name Derived from the name of the 17th century Dutch poet Joost van den Vondel. It was followed by an image of a map leaked online that showed an urban area with a windmill next to a river that looked a bit like Amsterdam to some fans. Today, Call of Duty leaker CharlieINTEL on Twitter confirmed that the long-rumored Vondel will be joining Warzone 2. All of this comes as season 3 draws to a close with NBA star Kevin Durant being released as Warzone 2’s Operator.
Warzone 2 Season 4 will begin on June 14, 2023, and is expected to launch alongside Beenox-developed Vondel. The map will support the Resurgence gametype first, with additional support for DMZ and Battle Royale later. If true, it would mean that Warzone will have two battle royale maps in rotation, the first in the Warzone series. In a follow-up tweet, CharlieINTEL described Vondel’s size as being larger than Ashika Island but smaller than Al Mazrah, meaning that Al Mazrah is still the second largest Battle Royale map in the Call of Duty series.
Quebec-based game developer Beenox has worked on several Call of Duty games, dating back to 2015’s Call of Duty : Black Ops 3, and even worked on Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 remake. This is the second map since the first Warzone Isle of Respawn. Beenox is also currently developing Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile, which is scheduled for release sometime in 2023. While initially popular, Warzone 2 suffered a significant loss of players over the next few months. Time will tell if Season 4 can revive interest in the game.
Call of Duty: Warzone 2 is out now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
