Call of Duty: Warzone 2 has been criticized by the gaming community for reusing Warzone 1 skins in Warzone 2 Season 3. Many players accused the company of offering recolored skins as a “lazy” and “money grab” tactic. Recently, the delay problem of “Call of Duty : War Zone 2” has also frustrated many players.
Since the release of Season 3 on April 12, there’s been a lot of new content in Warzone 2, including the pricey BlackCell battle pass and what some players are calling “pay to win” bundles. The bundle costs 2,400 COD points and includes a variant of the Kastov 762 called a vaporizer. The Vaporizer is essentially the same weapon as the Resonator, but with recolored skins, new tracers, and different death effects. In addition to the weapon, the bundle also includes Gromsko’s Operator skin, which uses the Dr. Karlov skin Bale wears in Modern Warfare.
The re-use of skins has not gone unnoticed by the Call of Duty community, with Charlie Intel tweeting a side-by-side comparison of the old and new skins, with many players expressing their disappointment. StoneMountain64, the streamer for Call of Duty : Warzone, downplayed the situation, saying it was fun to buy the same skin and smiley emoji again. Many Call of Duty players have commented that they won’t pay for recycled content.
Meanwhile, players on Reddit have also expressed displeasure with the situation. Some gamers pointed out that the practice of re-skinning is not new and has been used in other games like Apex Legends. However, the level of public dissatisfaction with the Call of Duty community isn’t quite the same.
As the controversy continues to simmer, it remains to be seen whether Activision will address the concerns of its playerbase. While Warzone 2 added a multifunctional Resurgence game mode in Season 3, many fans wondered why Call of Duty would recycle skins. Repurposing skins can be a cost-effective way for companies to deliver new content, but it risks alienating loyal fans who feel their money was wasted on recycled items.
Call of Duty: Warzone 2 is out now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
