With the launch of Season 3, Activision revealed several new multiplayer maps and modes in Call of Duty : Modern Warfare 2. Some new modes coming to Call of Duty : Modern Warfare 2 haven’t been seen in the Call of Duty series for several years.
Modern Warfare 2 Season 2 Reloaded received its final playlist update on April 5th ahead of the Season 3 launch. Players can enjoy the expanded Shipment 24/7 for a week before the big change to the playlist in the Season 3 update. After a couple of teases on Call of Duty’s official social media accounts, Activision has confirmed that a season 3 roadmap will be released with all the details Modern Warfare 2 players need to know.
A new Call of Duty blog post has been released, revealing several new multiplayer maps and modes coming April 12th alongside Modern Warfare 2 Season 3. Four new core maps will be added to Modern Warfare 2’s 6v6 playlist, and two new battle maps will be added to Ground War and Invasion modes. Pelayo’s Lighthouse and Black Gold will be available as a 6v6 playlist at the launch of Season 3, and Alboran Hatchery and the fourth core map will be released in the Mid-Season Update. The Rohan Oil and Sattiq Cave Complex battle maps will be available on Season 3 launch day, so players can look forward to four new maps to explore and compete during launch day. The aforementioned core map will also appear in a series of new modes in the Modern Warfare 2 playlist.
Last seen in Call of Duty : Black Ops Cold War, the Cranked multiplayer mode returns in Modern Warfare 2 Season 3. Cranked is a modified team deathmatch mode where players must kill their opponents before the countdown timer reaches zero. If the timer hits zero, the player explodes, so Cranked urges players to rush into battle and take kills to extend the timer. Additionally, the Gunfight mode in Modern Warfare 2019 will roll out with the Alley, Blacksite, Exhibit, and Shipment maps. Players can also look forward to the return of the 3v3 stand-off mode from 2011’s Modern Warfare 3, as well as the “Infected Ground War” added later in season three.
The Modern Warfare 2 Season 3 update appears to be a big one, but it remains to be seen if any of the popular modes from the April 5th playlist update will return on April 12th. Fortunately, Season 3’s map and mode diversity already seems promising, as a lot of new content is in the works. The inclusion of the ever-popular Shipment map in the shootout is also likely to be welcomed by the community.
Along with new maps and modes, Season 3 of Modern Warfare 2 will feature the highly anticipated confrontation between Alejandro and Valeria. Season 3 will be an eventful one for Modern Warfare 2, with more new content coming in the form of mid-season updates.
Call of Duty : Modern Warfare 2 is now available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
