Players sometimes suffer more embarrassing fates at their own hands than other players, and this was the case for a Call of Duty : Modern Warfare 2 player after throwing a grenade in multiplayer ended in comically deadly fashion. It’s not uncommon for Hail Mary grenade throws to kill, especially with the newest Call of Duty grenade variety giving players a degree of flexibility when trying to throw blindly across the map. However, this doesn’t seem to be enough to prevent the player in question from getting a little too blind when trying to throw a grenade across the map.
The grenades available in Call of Duty : Modern Warfare 2, much like the other weapons available, are a key part of any workload when entering the game’s multiplayer arena. Killer players have a variety of explosive solutions, from frag grenades to semtex to count kills, whether it’s a blind throw or a well-timed, perfectly cooked grenade. However, players who are more tactile can choose between options like stun grenades, decoy grenades, or smoke grenades if they want to gain a temporary advantage in the heat of a gunfight.
Reddit user Mateto3 appeared to be one of the more lethal players as they attempted to score points in Zarqwa Hydroelectric’s team deathmatch. Instead of navigating the map, though, the grenade bounced off a lamp post and bounced off a rock, right back in Mateto3’s face before killing them. Mateto was able to laugh off his misfortune, though, and shared a clip of their grenade-throwing failure on the Modern Warfare 2 subreddit for all to see and laugh at the grenade-throwing failure.
The humor of Mateto’3’s clip didn’t get lost on some other Reddit users, echoing how unintentionally funny the grenade throw and its outcome ended up being. One user likened it to Looney Tunes character Wile E. Coyote trying to catch Road Runner, all of which ended in hilarious disaster for a cartoon coyote. Considering how the grenade bounces back to the Mateto3 like a pinball, one might think it was one of the many Acme products that Wile E. Coyote used in his brainstorming projects.
Ultimately, Mateto3’s take on his own downfall and how others reacted to the clip is arguably how more players should react to situations like this grenade throwing. Malicious behavior in the Call of Duty community has become more common, thanks in large part to a combination of competitive gameplay and social media, which has made it difficult for some players to enjoy the series’ fast-paced and sometimes chaotic gameplay. If more players adopt Mateto3’s attitude towards their mistakes, it will be easier for the community to get more players involved in future series.
