Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is nearly 11 years old at this point, but it finds itself back at the top of the Xbox bestseller list. Treyarch and Activision first released Call of Duty : Black Ops 2 in 2012 to critical acclaim, receiving positive reviews and selling millions of copies. Considering how many people already bought and played Black Ops 2 when it first came out, it’s a bit surprising to see the game return to the top of the Xbox sales charts.
Call of Duty : Black Ops 2 has been popular for a number of reasons. For starters, it’s the last Call of Duty game without extensive microtransactions to monetize post-launch content through traditional paid DLC expansions. Second, it contains some of the most popular zombie maps in Call of Duty history, as well as some of the best online multiplayer games in the series.
Call of Duty : Black Ops 2 is discounted from $49.99 all the way down to $14.99 until April 4th. With the digital version of Call of Duty : Black Ops 2 still selling for $49.99 a decade after its release, it’s perhaps not surprising to see many jumping at the chance to pick it up for such a low price. It’s worth noting that Black Ops 2 isn’t the only classic Call of Duty game currently on sale, with other titles also joining the ranks of the sales charts.

The sheer staying power of these classic Call of Duty games is worth a look, though the newer titles in the series also get some love. After all, the 2022 version of Call of Duty : Modern Warfare 2 is currently the third best-selling digital Xbox game.
Seeing how popular these older Call of Duty games are still so popular more than a decade after they were first released, it’s clear why Xbox wants to acquire franchise rights for its Xbox Game Pass subscription service. One of the main benefits of Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard will be securing Call of Duty on Xbox Game Pass. If it can finally offer a new Call of Duty game on Xbox Game Pass on day one, it stands to reason that Microsoft could significantly increase the number of subscribers for the subscription service.
